A transparent mind
1.m. transparent (Latin)
prefix trans- (from one side to another)
root of the verb -parere (appear,
appear, be at the service of ...)
Sometimes we just need something very simple and therein lies the difficulty. We look for something authentic out there but we just need a change of perspective from here, adjust our view of things, change the orientation of where we put our focus ...
When we reflect on all the problems that accompany us throughout the day, we can realize how transparently observing is the best position we can adopt when facing everything that is happening to us. This clarity will provide us with the best answer to organize or tackle the demanding daily agenda.
In a world in constant change and surrounded by an incredible amount of stimuli and information, of so many conflicting opinions, to be able to clarify our mind becomes essential. Furthermore, when everything tends towards constant confusion in our environment, in the majority of people around us, also mired in that whirlwind of doing more, accumulating more, consuming more products, information, substances ... Where does all that lead us?
Anyone who is interested or reflects a bit on all this can see that this model of life will sooner or later lead us to sunset. In addition to generating much confusion and suffering, it leads us directly to a repetitive and mechanical inertia that over time we cannot and do not know how to control.
When we observe all this process in ourselves, we can realize how this way of living is related to isolation, anxiety or suffering, of never being happy with where I am, what I do or what I have.
Raising awareness in our minds is, first of all, like knowing how to diagnose a disease before getting treatment. Discern what kinds of thoughts are harmful and toxic to be able to systematically or progressively separate them, depending on the difficulty of the specific process or the natural learning of each person.
That action of elimination often comes from the urgency of seeing how it is affecting us in a devastating way on a daily basis. In this sense, being able to see how certain types of thoughts are related to tensions and contractions in our body and in turn also to the conflicts that we have in our daily activities.
The limitation we create ourselves when we decide to follow certain types of thoughts that bring us nothing but confusion, fear and anguish. Discarding is the first step to start changing the habits that prevent us from being ourselves in the day and fully develop in our relationships, activities and jobs.
To be aware of all this is also to be aware of darkness in the form of depression, general discouragement or anxiety. It is a comprehensive process in which you have to be willing to leave nothing uncleaned. All this obviously is not going to prevent us from feeling pain, but it is showing us the way, a path where we are already looking for solutions and putting ourselves into action.
Only when we decide to do it and are aware of all this, we are putting light on what has created the problem and, in this way, we redirect attention to our mind, a mind that by nature is clear and transparent. We are changing the inertia towards where all those kinds of thoughts are directed and we are heading towards the only place where everything happens, towards this amplitude, spaciousness and luminosity of the present moment.
And when we enter that process of knowing ourselves more, we develop a basic tool that always resides within us, honesty. To be honest with ourselves is to tell us the truth at all times, with everything we see and act accordingly despite the side effects it may have on our lives.
As the etymology of the word transparent says, we have to appear from time to time in our minds and know what happens there; appear in our experience and be consistent with everything that happens there; and lastly, to be at the service of the presence, to direct our attention towards that which allows us to clearly see the thoughts that cloud our mind.
Therefore, an inner approach, a calm mind and a calm body are required. That is the ground where the new grows. And from there is born that crystalline and transparent, innocent look that comes from observing things in a neutral way.
When we neutrally observe things, situations, people around us, we can have more perspective. We no longer believe all those thoughts that intercede in the present reality, that judge and criticize all the time. We simply observe and witness. In this way, we manage to stop this inertia and everything is relaxing ... more and more.
Now yes, we can be more sensitive to everything that happens to us. A way to gradually open ourselves to the wide and spacious perspective that present experience gives us.
When we decide to take the path of seeing things as they are, of showing ourselves as we are, we sooner or later discover that there is something that always accompanies us, a presence that invites us to bring everything to light, that provides us with calm and it helps free us from all the suffering that may have accompanied us for a long time.
In this process, clarity in our minds is shown more frequently in our direct perception of the senses, in more space between thoughts, in more openness in our actions and relationships ...
All this through awake observation.
